Hello, I'm Altug Karakurt

I'm an electrical engineer and I am currently looking for a job, which is probably how you ended up here.

I'm finally completing my PhD at Electrical & Computer Engineering at University of Colorado Boulder. My thesis focuses on network information theory and large-scale scientific computing. I have an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Ohio State University with a focus on telecommunication and networking. In my prior academic efforts, I have worked on online machine learning and music information retrieval.

I specialize in information theory, telecommunication, scientific computing and (online) machine learning. The common theme across my work is optimization and quantifying uncertainty, both of which find application in a wide range of real-world problems. I have collaborated with experts from various fields (from computational musicology, to social network analysis, to atmospheric research) to help translate their domain-specific questions into computational and mathematical problems. The future position I envision would be along similar lines; posing a business/policy decision as a computational and/or statistical problem and delivering quantitative insights to help make the optimal choices.
